Film plays a significant role in highlighting how hope, and a vision for a better future can lead the way towards peaceful coexistence. The Arabia Felix Short Film Competition provides a platform for young Yemeni film enthusiasts to produce films that promote peaceful coexistence, gender equality, acceptance, tolerance, and human rights. The Arabia Felix Short Film Competition uses the power of moving images to promote peaceful coexistence in Yemen while celebrating its ability to unite Yemenis all over the country.
Through the Arabia Felix Short Film Competition, filmmakers are invited to share daily-life stories about ordinary Yemenis who tried and succeeded in drawing a different reality for themselves, their families and their communities. These stories offer viewers an alternative perspective on life as they share how these realities can lead towards cooperation, peace, and a celebration of differences. The Arabia Felix Short Film Competition focuses on what coexistence is, what violence is and why it occurs, and most importantly, what it means to deal with disputes constructively and cooperatively. The ultimate aim is to showcase the full creative potential that this
transformation has on those involved.
The Arabia Felix Film Competition was announced nationwide in Yemen. Particular attention was paid to ensuring that the chosen film topics were inclusive and that inclusivity was also mirrored in the composition of the production teams. Yemeni youth, women, people with disabilities and other disadvantaged groups were particularly encouraged to apply. Out of the many entrants, 31 were shortlisted. An esteemed Jury selected 10 winning teams to produce 10 short films in three categories: Animation, Fiction and Documentary.
